Cell Phone eBook Reader Discussion Group
This group will discuss the desirability, features, feasibility, and current work in creating inexpensive cell phone-based ebook readers. Initially, this project will focus on basic ebook reader functionality, and later efforts will look at pushing the limits of cross-disability interface functionality for the readers.
One thought is to create programs that can be loaded into a person's cell phone to add eBook reading to it. Another is to create software that can be loaded into surplus cell phones on order to re-purpose them into low cost audio e-book readers. The readers can be used without being connected to any phone service. Connection to any computer (via USB) will allow books to be downloaded to the reader/phone. A side benefit is that the phones can be used for emergency calls if they are within tower range and compatible with the phone system in the country of use.
