Access Features MasterList Discussion Group

This project will compile a list of all access features that are available or desired by people with disabilities. The group draws information from all of the other Needs and Features Discussion Groups and also provides input back to them. The deliverable for this project is a comprehensive list of all of the different Access Features that could help to make Web content more accessible and usable by people with different types, degrees and combinations of disability as well as those with literacy problems.

This list includes both features that could be built into Web content by authors and features that could interpret, transform, represent or augment Web content to make it more understandable or usable.

The initial work on this list was carried out by Rebecca Smith and Gregg Vanderheiden at the Trace R&D Center at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. The list was further extended at the first Raising the Floor Workshop on access to people with cognitive disabilities, carried out in conjunction with the University of Colorado's Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center.

Current Masterlist

The current draft Master List lists the major topics/approaches identified to date, along with a short description and links to papers, projects and research related to the approach. Over the long-term, this initial outline will be fleshed out further to provide a rich resource of ideas and current knowledge about the many approaches for enhancing access to Web information for those with disabilities or trouble accessing Web information due to literacy issues.

Contributors to Date Include

Clayton Lewis, Cyndi Rowland, Rebecca Smith, Jutta Treviranus, Gregg Vanderheiden, and many more who shared ideas at the University of Colorado's 2008 Coleman Conference.
