Identification & Discussion of Needs & Solutions

This program area, "Identification and Discussion of Needs and Solutions," consists of programs and projects that bring together consumers, experts, and others to explore accessibility issues, identify new approaches, share ideas, and act as a consumer+expert resource to all of the other programs and projects in RtF.

There are currently 3 Major Efforts ongoing in this area:

RtF Needs and Features Masterlist

This effort is focused on the compilation of all information (free and open source software, commercial products, consumer notes, research, etc.) regarding what's available, what works, and what should be explored - across consumer groups. The information is currently being compiled into a master database that will generate the "Masterlist of Needs and Features” and the Database of Free & Open Source Accessibility Solutions (FOSAS). This list and database will feed numerous RtF activities as well as act as a resource for researchers, developers, and others outside of RtF. Much of the review and continual input to this database comes from the individual disability discussion groups above as well as from those active in research development and consumer information activities.

Needs and Solutions Discussion and Review Groups

RtF has formed a set of discussion/review groups, each focused on a particular consumer group that has access barriers. The purpose of the groups is to identify what is available, what works, and what might be tried to benefit different individuals within each consumer group focus. The scope of discussion includes devices, features, services, software etc. These groups are also resources for all of the other groups within RtF (and externally working on RtF-related work). The discussion groups are not to evaluate other people’s efforts but to identify the best of what we know, to explore new ideas and to allow a forward looking free flow of ideas and discussion. Click on any Group name below to go the home page for that group where you can sign up. Or you can sign up for multiple groups more easily at the Mailing Lists

Special Topic Discussion Groups

In addition to the disability-specific discussion groups, there has also been interest in forming discussion groups around specific project areas. Most of these discussions are associated with particular software development projects or work areas (and will also be found there), but others span different projects or disability groups and are only found here.
