Third Party Page Enhancement Working group

This working group will research and develop strategies for the enhancement of web sites by third parties. Scripts, RDF and other techniques can be used to allow 3rd parties to be able to enhance the accessibility of Web sites for people with different disabilities.

Collaborative third party enhancements allow one user or developer to share scripts, markup, metadata or other information that can make certain web sites easier to navigate, view, and understand. Numerous scripting modules may be developed to deal wtih different websites or different types of technology.

For example, one screen reader user who is frustrated by unclear menu options on a website might write a simple piece of code that makes his screen reader skip immediately to important parts of the page. He can share this code online through the RtF collaborative tool, so that other users who visit the site later can take advantage of his enhancement to navigate the page more easily as well.

There are currently a number of different approaches to this using a wide variety of technologies.  The purpose of this project is to explore these and come up with unified formats and approaches that can be used by RtF and others to make this a widespread, safe and effective method for access enhancement.
